Having spent a productive day at Vinci (Leonardo's birthplace) we drive southwards still beyond Firenze to Greve in Chianti
There are no places I can think of that can prepare you for the stunning scenery that greets you as you enter the Chianti region of Tuscany. It really has no equal and to tick this off our bucket list (again) is another fine achievement
The vineyards here are vast in number and valley after valley are saturated with golden vines bathing in the autumn sun
Greve is also the RV point for us with Mick & Deb who are on the return trip from Rome & Pompeii
We are soon gassing away and then heading for a an 'Enoteca' in town where we can 'wet our whistles' with the local Chianti wines...
Pic n' mix for our Notts Chums..
Ahh, decisions, decisions....
Several visits are made to town during our stay with the pretence of doing some light shopping at the local Coop but its really an excuse for an amble round the square and to view its many artisanal shops
Veggies step away!
Pork pies?
Next day a walk is suggested and off we go in to the local hills armed with sarnies and smiles a plenty...
Porsches grace the local Piazza
A cafe with a view!
Just add Latte...
Back at base we get a bulk wine delivery to the van....
After having sidestepped the guy at the local Pizzeria in town one too many times during our stay we decide to give it a go and we are rewarded with possibly the best pizzas we've ever tasted
Mick & Deb have splashed the cash recently and invested in a pair of hardcore Electric mountain bikes
I'm right made up with Mick's bike and take it for a spin. Its a complete breeze riding one of these as it just kicks you up the backside when starting off and shoves you uphill when you start to flag
We decide to relocate to Castellini in Chianti which is nearby and has electric for our battery charging regime
There's a market on at the weekend but both girls avoid the shopping bug and pay more attention to this big eared pet thankfully whilst browsing the stalls
Every evening is spent together in one of our vans having dinner, drinking the local vino and chewing the fat as so to speak
Next up is Panzano in Chianti and the views just get better
Sat in the sun lapping up the atmos and doing well...nothing
A wave for our chums (Keith & Chris) from the Italian advanced party
Wild camping at its best....
Our last night is spent back at Greve where I bully M & D to go to the pizzeria again
Mick had no problems saying yes and was rewarded with a pizza that touched the table cloth
Six great days in very good company and we parted completely shattered to have a few days on our own charging up our own batteries
Talked up and drank up but with happy memories
Innt' Italy brilliant!
