The Passing of Mum

On the morning of 3 Feb my beautiful Mum passed away peacefully ....

She died in her sleep at Mansfield Manor Nursing Home where she'd been for the past five years after  succumbing to a chest infection

I can't begin to let the world know what my mum meant to Nina & Me, my family or the many folks that interacted with her during her time on Planet Earth but she was a beautiful lady in mind and body who always saw the good in people and who always had a cheery smile for everyone....

This Lady was my Rock...

She never judged, was always sympathetic, quietly guiding but always, always there...

❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

Marlene my sister kept me informed throughout the final days of Mum's life and we shared many calls and this helped us immensely particularly at the end as we felt as if we were there in the room with her despite the distance in between

I flew back alone a day before the funeral to RV with Martyn and Family and we gathered ourselves for Mum's funeral the next day on 19 Feb. Nina as you can imagine was beside herself with grief not being able to fly home with me and we can't thank her parents Lynda & Terry enough for being here in Spain to support Nina with care at this time

I have to say the actual funeral, dreaded by most as being very sad events, actually for me was a hugely uplifting event...

Sharon, a lay preacher and recent carer for my Mum, gave a wonderful service at the Crematorium focusing on my Mum's ability to make us smile, support and direct us, and above all the Love she had for us all.
She read a very nice reading created by her great grandchildren and together as a family we sent her gracefully on her way....

A nice get together after saw a fragmented Family brought together by the love of a wonderful Mother, Grandmother and Great Grandmother

My Mum...Thankyou so much for being my Rock.....

Seven weeks on..

The next few weeks are difficult to say the least....
We have good days and bad days as you can imagine but we resolve to plough on as we have no option tbh
I manage to source a wheelchair from a mobility shop and this is a big step for us in that we can now get Nina outside the RV albeit in an awkward shuffle down the steps in to the chair
She is outside in the sun for the first time and that makes her feel so much better

A visit to the clinic in the hire car is a success so we decide to drive around to Puerto de Mazarron for a wheel along the promenade and an hour or so back in Planet Reality

Not a comfortable experience for her but Nina puts on a brave smile

We stop at the Morroccan restaurant and enjoy a very nice Humus/cous cous meal for lunch and vow to return soon when we are more practised with the 'wheels'

We do the trip to Cartagena hospital and the full horror is revealed...
We are quite shocked by the X rays counting 15 screws amid the titanium plating and both sit crying in the cafe...the stress and trauma of it all just overwhelms us again

A week later and we are settled in to the regular twice weekly trips to the hospital some 60km away
Nina is fitted with an orthopaedic leg brace which we again have to purchase and her foot now sees some sunshine

Nina's folks drive down from the UK in just three days and settle in to the apartment we have sourced for them in nearby Bolnuevo

A nice location just around from the seafront and perfect for their two month stay to support us

At last a bit of pleasure for Nina as she has her hair highlighted and cut at the local salon

Terry has the controls and Nina is wheeled to the end of the promenade to a nice bar for a view of the sea and a welcomed beer

The aptly named 'Oasis' bar

Lynda steps in the fray and embarks on a cooking regime involving back to back Full English Breakfasts at the apartment and a very nice prawn curry done in the RV with me sat down for a change

We cram in to the hire car one day and visit Puerto for lunch and a drink around the marina

Nina is improving daily now with her facial injuries healing nicely
There is still a way to go but hopefully her disfigured and swollen lip will relax at some point and the remaining healing skin issues with her leg are resolved soon

Rudy and Dorine visit again which was really nice as together with a newly arrived keith we wheel Nina down the front here at Puntas de Calnegre to the local restaurant for a Menu del Dia on the beach

A 'Bon Bon' for Nina made with condensed milk
Too sweet but it hit the spot...
